Emily completed the Fashion Design & Techniques Program at George Brown College and showcased her lingerie collection at Toronto Alternative Fashion week in 2012. She went back to GBC for the Fashion Business Industry Program and completed her Bachelors of Arts in International Fashion Practices at Manchester Metropolitan University. EmMeMa was launched online in 2010, concurrent with the start of her formal education and the brick and mortar store was opened 2014-2021 at Shops On Yonge shopping centre in north Toronto which focused on custom-made gowns for special occasions.
After several years of dabbling her toes into almost everything to do with fashion, she has narrowed down her maker's inhibition to creating well-made, eco-conscious underwear and loungewear. The first set of cuddle undies were born in Nova Scotia (2018), when her then-boyfriend, now-husband, had a hole in his boxers and she decided to surprise him with a pair of handmade boxer briefs in a whale print found in the local fabric shop. Little did she know it was the start of EmMeMa as we know it! With the fast-paced world of fashion, she is going against the grain by making well-made and timeless items that will renew your excitement for minimalistic apparel and 5% of proceeds is donated to Wildlife Preservation Canada. Every step of this business has mother Earth in mind, from the fabric to packaging. Emily also became a mom in September 2021 and launched her line of reusable baby diapers featuring Bamboo liners. She hopes to expand her collection for the whole family while helping the Earth become a little bit greener.
